Langtang national park, established in 1976, with an area of 1710 sq km, in the north of the Kathmandu, is the natural paradise for nature lovers, birdwatchers and ornithologists. The park is extremely rich in birdlife (380 species by Bird Conservation Nepal and DNPWC), making this an excellent birdwatching and nature hiking destination not far from Kathmandu, in the Himalayas. One of the iconic bird, IBISBILL, spends its summer and breeds here. The park has the record of 10 GTS (globally-threatened species) and 49 nationally threatened species of birds, with many other important species of birds, making it an important Bird Area (IBAs) of the country and world too.

It is also the home to numerous rare, endangered flora and fauna; rare and elusive Red Panda and Snow Leopard. Other fauna includes Himalayan Tahr, Himalayan Black Bear, Common Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Leopard Cat, Musk Deer, Assamese Monkey, Red Wolf and Tibetan Sheep etc.(DNPWC, Nepal)

Within the park, there are numerous wetlands, among which most sacred alpine lake, Gosainkund is one of the most important lake culturally and important Ramsar site of the world.

The Trek

It is also, one of the most popular adventure trekking destination in Nepal. The highest mountain, that can be also seen from Kathmandu is Langtang Lirung (7250 m). 

Langtang national park and Bird trek itinerary, is designed for any nature and adventure lovers based in camping accommodation (lodge option is also available). For bird and nature lovers, this is a must nature trek into the Himalayas. To have the maximum record of birds, the camping will be done in more remote areas wherever possible and also the hiking duration is usually shorter on most of the days.

Best Season

Late spring and summer with Autumn would be the best recommended time for this tour.
